Peter Schiff, a leading Bitcoin opponent, recently called Bitcoin "Public Enemy No. 1" in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
On the 8th (local time), U-Today reported that Schiff further strengthened his anti-Bitcoin rhetoric, saying, "Bitcoin supporters are bribing government officials and using public funds to buy Bitcoin."
"Bitcoin is not simply a means of personal speculation, it is a threat to national security," he said.
Schiff's strong criticism comes amid an ongoing debate about whether the United States should establish a national Bitcoin reserve.
Recently, Michael Saylor, co-founder of MicroStrategy,
Saylor argued that the US government should replace gold with Bitcoin. Saylor said, "Such a step would remove the entire gold asset class from its monetary function.
"I would demonetize it," he said. This has drawn strong backlash from gold advocates. Former U.S. Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers
Summers strongly criticized the idea that the US should buy Bitcoin, calling it "nonsense."
