Kim Hong-Gyun, First Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (equivalent to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan) met with Japanese Ambassador to the Republic of Korea Koichi Mizushima on the 9th and explained the current situation in the Republic of Korea, including the recent state of emergency.
According to the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on the 9th, Vice Minister Kim Hong-gyun emphasized to Ambassador Mizushima Koichi that "we will overcome the current difficult situation based on democratic procedures and the rule of law."
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, "The two sides will continue to maintain close communication and strive for the sustainable development of Japan-South Korea relations and trilateral cooperation among Japan, the United States and South Korea."
Prior to this, South Korean Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yeol met with US Ambassador to South Korea Philip Goldberg the previous day and announced emergency martial law together with Vice Minister Kim Hong-gyun.
The South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to communicate with the ambassadors of Japan, the United States, China, and Russia, as well as other diplomatic missions in South Korea, at all levels, including the Minister, regarding the state of emergency and the upcoming political situation.
