The bill was passed with 204 votes in favor, 85 against, 3 abstentions, and 8 invalid votes. Chairman Woo said, "The National Assembly and the Speaker of the National Assembly will take this fact to heart. From now on, the removal of the president will be handled through constitutional procedures.
"The Constitutional Court will decide whether to grant impeachment. The National Assembly will faithfully participate in the Constitutional Court's impeachment trial," he said. He added, "We will also work to expedite the appointment of vacant constitutional justices."
He added, "Democracy is proven by the lives of the people. Let us now move forward together one step at a time. I hope that the lives and daily lives of the people will soon become stable, and that there will be no more domestic or international anxiety or uncertainty in all areas, including the economy, diplomacy, and national defense.
"The National Assembly and the government will work together to prevent the rift from getting worse," he said. "I hope that government officials will carry out the tasks they have been entrusted with without the slightest wavering. The National Assembly will also work to restore the country's credibility with the outside world.
"We will do our best to restore people's livelihood," Chairman Woo added. "Finally, I hope that the end of the year will be a little happier for the people. I ask that the canceled year-end parties be resumed.
"Small business owners and backstreet businesses are suffering greatly," he said. "The future of the Republic of Korea, our hope, lies within the people. Hope is powerful," Woo added.
