On the same day, Rep. Lee wrote on his Facebook page, "Watching former Chairman Han step down, I have a sense of déjà vu."
He added, "Although his approach is different from mine, he felt a similar awareness of the problem and highly evaluated his efforts to solve it.
"I have been through it all, so I hope that it will not happen again. I hope that the Republic of Korea will do well," said Han, the former president.
"I deeply sympathize with that last remark," he added. Rep. Lee, who was elected as the representative of the People's Power Party in June 2021, has since criticized Yoon using expressions such as "instigating the destruction of evidence of sexual entertainment," "wolf in sheep's clothing," and "new military power."
- He was reprimanded by the party's ethics committee for criticizing President Yoon Seok-yeol and the party, and stepped down from his position as chairman before completing his term.
On the same day, Rep. Lee posted on Facebook that the pro-Yoon Seok-yeol faction was on the offensive.
This was interpreted as a show of sympathy to former Chairman Han, who resigned from his position amid the current situation.
"The party leadership has collapsed and it is no longer possible for me to carry out my duties as leader properly. I will step down from my position as leader," he said. This comes 146 days after he was elected leader at the July 23 People's Power Party Conference.
He made it clear that he would continue to serve as party chairman until the 14th, but with all five elected supreme committee members announcing their intention to resign, the 'Han Dong-hoon leadership' will be disbanded.
