On the 16th (local time), according to The Block, blockchain detective JackXBT (ZachXBT) reportedly conducted a security investigation into the LastPass security breach in 2022.
The combined hacking attack resulted in the theft of approximately $5.36 million worth of cryptocurrency from more than 40 wallet addresses.
ZachXBT said in a Telegram group message that the stolen funds were in ETH (
"The Ethereum tokens were then exchanged for Bitcoin (ETH) and then transferred from ETH to Bitcoin through various instant exchanges."
The security breach was a hack of the LastPass password manager service that occurred in 2022.
At the time, the attackers stole a large amount of data, including customer keys, API tokens, and MFA (multi-factor authentication) seeds.
Sensitive customer data leaked from LastPass has already led to two cryptocurrency hacks
The first incident, confirmed by JackXBT, took place in October 2023, resulting in the theft of $4.4 million, while the second occurred in February of this year, resulting in the theft of more than $6.2 million.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) last year, Jack XBT said, "If you have ever saved a seed phrase or key in LastPass, we strongly urge you to move your cryptocurrency assets to another wallet immediately.
I recommend it," he warned.
