Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon: ”Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, please continue to voice your impeachment and cooperate with the trial” (South Korea)
On the 19th, Seoul Mayor Oh Sehun told Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, "You have to cooperate with the speedy trial, as you are calling for the swift impeachment proceedings.
Mayor Wu wrote on Facebook that day, "Even an apology in front of the people is not enough. Lee Jae-myung is cowardly stalling for time by evading the judgeship."
"It is despicable that they are wasting time without any sense of shame," he added. "Lee Hwa-young, former Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, received the same heavy sentence in the appeal trial as in the first trial.
"Once again, the court concluded that the remittance to North Korea was 'the cost of Lee Jae Myung's visit to North Korea.'" He continued, "It is unreasonable to do something as important as a remittance to North Korea without the knowledge of the group's head and by the deputy head alone.
"I can't do that, and there's no reason to do that," he added. Meanwhile, the first criminal division of the Suwon High Court held a hearing on the same day on the specific crime aggravated punishment law for Vice Governor Lee Hwa-young of Gyeonggi Province.
Vice Governor Lee was sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison at the appeal hearing for charges of bribery and violation of the political funds law. Vice Governor Lee received bribes worth hundreds of millions of won from the Sanbangul Group.
He was arrested and indicted on suspicion of conspiring to transfer $8 million (approximately 1.255 billion yen) to North Korea.
