South Korean Mayor Hong Jun-pyo of Daegu has said that the most fatal mistake made by President Yoon Seok-yeol, who is facing the threat of impeachment, is "the move to the presidential office."
In an interview with the Korean monthly magazine Monthly Chosun published on the 19th, Mayor Hong said, "President Yoon's most fatal mistake was moving the presidential office to Yongsan in Seoul.
"It seems that they moved the Blue House because the topography was bad, but as long as I'm doing a good job (after joining the Blue House), I don't mind leaving it as it is.
"There was no need to move the Blue House to another place," he said. "The Blue House is not a government office that exercises power, but a symbol of the Republic of Korea, and the president alone cannot move that symbol at his own discretion."
"By moving the symbol, the president's charisma has been destroyed since the start of his administration, and the opposition party has begun to look down on him. The president's commute to the presidential office will cause traffic jams.
"I don't know who the next president will be, but I will restore the Blue House," Mayor Hong said.
