A man in his 60s assaulted an elderly man in his 90s to steal bread...the victim died = South Korea
A man in his 60s who stole a bag of bread from an elderly man in his 90s in broad daylight and assaulted him has been sentenced to prison. The Busan District Court on the 22nd issued a prison sentence to the victim, A, who was indicted on charges of robbery and assault.
On the afternoon of July 27, defendant A approached an elderly man in his 90s, Mr. B, on a road in Dongnae-gu, Busan, snatched a bag of bread, and tried to take it back.
The suspect was found guilty of hitting Mr. B with a walking stick, pushing him down with both hands, and causing injuries that required 10 weeks of recovery. Mr. B died about 10 weeks after the incident.
The court said, "The defendant committed a robbery and assault against a vulnerable elderly person in a residential area, leaving the 93-year-old victim with a fractured femur."
Considering that the individual has been punished many times before for similar crimes and that the victim is pleading for severe punishment, punishment commensurate with the crime is inevitable."
He continued, "The defendant admitted to the crime and deposited 10 million won (approximately 1.08 million yen), and the stolen property was only a bag of bread, which is a small amount.
"We took into consideration various factors, including the fact that the crime was committed," he said, explaining the reason for the sentence.
