All medical professions gather together to ”come together to prevent monopoly on medical care” = South Korea
Park Hyun-wook, emergency response committee chairman of the Korean Medical Association, emphasized on the 22nd that "all professions must speak out with one voice to stop the government's monopoly on medical care."
On the same day, at the "National Physician Representatives Conference for Medical Monopolization and the Prosecution of Those Responsible" held at the Yongsan District Medical Association Hall in Seoul, Chairman Park said, "The medical community is progressing.
"The way forward is to create a tradition where all professions can discuss the issue within one framework," he said. "If we can unite the will of all professions, including medical residents and medical students, we can eliminate the monopoly on medical care."
"We will be one step closer to preventing this disease and normalizing medical care," he added. Representatives of doctors from all walks of life, including hospital directors, staff doctors, medical school professors, and medical residents, gathered at the conference.
This was the first time that all medical professions had gathered together since the impeachment of President Yoo. Prior to the meeting, medical representatives shouted slogans such as, "This is a hasty and arbitrary increase in the number of medical school staff. Let's start from the beginning and discuss it."
Kang Dae-sik, acting president of the Korean Medical Association, said, "The government must immediately stop the erroneous medical reform policies it has been pursuing and punish those responsible."
Kim Gyo-woon, chairman of the association's delegate committee, urged, "Now the president must put his conscience into the student quota and work with professors to provide a proper education."
The event was also attended by Ahn Cheol-soo, a lawmaker from the ruling party, and Lee Ju-yeon, a lawmaker from the New Reform Party. Ahn said, "The government, the ruling and opposition parties, and the medical community are holding emergency talks.
"We need to form a body and start discussing the issue of increasing the number of medical school staff by 2025," said Rep. Lee. "I want senior doctors to step in so that medical students and residents can return to the profession."
He also said, "The only way to stop the regular recruitment now is to delegate the authority to each medical school. We will take responsibility, so at least we will be able to take care of everything from legal issues to education."
I want you to come forward and tell the students that you will take responsibility for any lawsuits against our school."
