Regarding this, he emphasized, "Even if more than half of the National Assembly votes in favor (of the impeachment motion), Acting President Han must continue to carry out his duties as he is now."
Acting President Kwon held a press conference at the National Assembly on the same day and said, "Since Acting President Kwon is in a position equivalent to the president, the conditions for impeachment must be the same as those for impeaching the president.
He said, "When an impeachment motion against Acting President Han is proposed, the quorum required for it to pass is two-thirds (200) of the registered Assembly members, just like for the president."
The Democratic Party believes that the impeachment bill could be passed with the approval of a majority of the lawmakers (151 members), the standard required to impeach a prime minister.
Acting President Kwon said, "Moreover, the Democratic Party of Korea has decided to participate in the ruling-opposition political consultation body for national stability.
"He himself recognized Han as a partner for stabilizing national affairs. But now he has changed his words to impeach him. How can he justify such divisive behavior?"
He continued, "10 days ago, Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, promised not to impeach the acting president, saying that too many impeachments would lead to chaos in national politics.
"Less than 10 days after making this promise, they have completely reneged and are once again randomly bringing up impeachment motions. This is a fraudulent act that is deceiving the government, the ruling party and the people," he added.
