South Korea's ruling party: ”The impeachment resolution against Acting President Han Deok-soo is completely invalid”

In a commentary released on the same day, Seo Ji-yeon, a spokesperson for the People Power Party, said, "The Democratic Party of Korea has forced the impeachment of an acting president, a first in constitutional history."
The 29th impeachment by the ruling party, against Prime Minister Han Deok-soo, was a hasty impeachment that did not meet the necessary requirements or the required number of votes, and is therefore completely invalid.
Seo Ji-Yeon, the floor spokesperson for the Constitutional Court, said, "The president of the Constitutional Court and the 2016 Legislative Research Service report and the National Assembly Steering Committee report are the authority representatives.
"The law clearly states that a weighted voting majority (200 or more seats) is required to impeach a group," he said. "National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-sik ignored this and said, 'Lee Jae-myung
"The Speaker of the National Assembly's arbitrary application of the deciding votes (151 people) paved the way for the ineffectiveness of the executive branch," he said.
"It is a 'legislative dictatorship' that undermines the separation of powers. He is not qualified to be the speaker of the National Assembly," he said. He continued, "Yesterday's impeachment has pushed the Republic of Korea into the depths of crisis.
"The chain of unjustified impeachments will lead to a decline in international trust and further economic uncertainty, including a shrinking of the public economy, and this crisis is entirely the responsibility of the Democratic Party of Korea," he said.
Regarding Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, floor spokesperson Seo Ji-yeong said, "The public will remember the smile on Lee Jae-myung's face after the impeachment vote."
Lee Jae-myung should keep in mind that no matter how much he paralyzes national politics by using his position as the National Assembly Speaker and majority seat, his own judicial risk will not go away," he added.
Prior to this, the People's Power filed a petition for a "power dispute trial" with the Constitutional Court immediately after the opposition-led impeachment motion against the acting powers was passed in the National Assembly the previous day.
