Former Fatherland Reform Party Chairman Cho Kuk: ”It's frustrating, but I'm eating well and exercising a lot” ... Letter from prison made public (South Korea)
A letter sent from prison by Cho Kuk, former head of the Fatherland Reform Party, who was sentenced to two years in prison for cheating on his child's entrance exam and covering up the Blue House inspection, was made public on the 28th.
Choi Kang-wook, a former Democratic Party lawmaker who served as secretary for public ethics under Cho in the Moon Jae-in administration, posted a letter sent by Cho on the same day.
Choi introduced the news on his blog. Choi said, "I was very frustrated when I heard the news from the outside, but I quickly adapted to it. I ate well and exercised a lot.
He added, "We will meet soon. I will lock all the beasts behind bars and he (former CEO Cho) will come out."
Prior to this, on the 13th, the Supreme Court upheld the original ruling that sentenced Cho to two years in prison and a fine of 6 million won (approximately 641,940 yen).
The Supreme Court ruled that the Blue House special inspection team's investigation into the false internship certificate issued by Cho's son and Yoo Jae-soo, former deputy mayor of Busan for economic affairs, was necessary.
The ruling also found him guilty of issuing a false internship certificate to Cho's son and of missing the 2020 general election.
On the same day, he was found guilty of falsely announcing that he had actually interned at a company in Seoul. Following the Supreme Court ruling, Cho lost his seat in the National Assembly and was incarcerated on the 16th.
Even after they won the election, their right to run was restricted for five years, meaning they could not run for office.
