韓国外相「困難な時ほど外交政策の振り幅を減らす」…「国際社会の信頼を回復」
South Korea's Foreign Minister: ”In times of difficulty, we will reduce the scope of our diplomatic policy”... ”Restore the trust of the international community”
On the 2nd, South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol said, "The more difficult the domestic situation is now, the more we need to reduce the swings in our foreign policy and move forward unwaveringly toward a consistent vision and goal.
Minister Cho made the remarks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' opening ceremony that afternoon, saying, "We must quickly restore the trust of the international community that we have worked so hard to build up."
"In order to achieve this, we must firmly adhere to our policy determination to 'play a role and take on responsibilities commensurate with our national strength,'" he said.
"The geopolitical tectonic shifts that South Korea has faced over the past year have been beyond our imagination," Cho said.
"The uncertainty we are now facing and will continue to face is so profound that it is difficult to pinpoint its depth," he said.
"It's difficult to estimate," he said. "Those of us at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs must have a sense of ownership and a great sense of responsibility, knowing that we are living on the ground where history is being made every day."
He also said, "The Ministry of Foreign Affairs must remain centered and calmly and steadily fulfill its role as the helmsman. We must have a sense of responsibility and historical awareness for the mission that the times have given us."
Let's work together to overcome any challenges we face."
