Jeju Air Disaster Victims' Families Say ”The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Should Establish a Separate Institution, Not a Self-Investigation”

Families of victims of the Jeju air disaster have called for a separate investigative body to be set up to guarantee the neutrality and independence of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's accident investigation committee.
The Jeju Air Passenger Disaster Family Council, which is made up of the families of the victims of the Jeju Air Disaster, held a press conference on the second floor of Muan International Airport on the 4th and announced,
The bereaved families demanded that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, which sets up and manages airport facilities, set up an Air and Rail Accident Investigation Committee to investigate the truth.
"Since a bureaucrat from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications will be the chairman of the investigation committee and a current director from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism will be the standing committee chairman, we are concerned about whether the investigation will be conducted fairly and transparently."
He continued, "Despite suspicions that airport facilities were one of the causes of this disaster, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism
"They are conducting a self-investigation," he said, adding, "To guarantee the neutrality and independence of the Air and Rail Accident Investigation Committee, they should either exclude Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism officials from the investigation or set up a separate investigative body."
The surviving families said, "Their opinions should be actively guaranteed," and demanded, "A thorough investigation should be conducted to assuage the grief of the victims and heal the wounds of the surviving families."
