Democratic Party of Korea: ”The High-ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Agency should risk their fate and arrest President Yoon Seok-yeol”... Also urges the removal of three security service officials from their posts (South Korea)
On the 5th, the Democratic Party of Korea urged the High-ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Agency to "execute the arrest warrant again within the deadline, risking the fate of the agency itself."
They also demanded that the acting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance immediately remove from their posts the director, deputy director, and chief of the Presidential Security Service, claiming that they are aiding and abetting the arrest of illegal rebels.
Yoon Jong-geun, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Korea, immediately after the emergency general assembly of lawmakers that afternoon, told reporters, "We are issuing an ultimatum to the chief of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
"The fate of the organization is at stake and the arrest warrant must be reissued," he said. "If the arrest warrant is not reissued, we will have no choice but to hold them politically and legally accountable."
According to Yoon, the floor spokesman, the Democratic Party lawmakers also flooded the general assembly with criticism of Choi.
"I think the most important thing for Acting President Choi to do is to immediately remove the head, deputy head and chief of the Security Service from their posts and actively focus on arresting those responsible for the rebellion. I strongly urge the immediate removal of the three from their posts," he said.
Yoon also said, "There are calls among lawmakers to impeach Acting President Choi Sang-mok for not taking an active role in arresting the masterminds of the rebellion."
"There have been many comments from individual lawmakers saying that we should do something about it. However, the leadership has not adopted these as the party's official opinion," he said.
Yoon said that if the arrest is not completed by the expiration date of the presidential arrest warrant on the 6th, the responsibility will be placed on acting president Choi and Oh Dong Woon.
In response to a question from reporters asking whether an impeachment motion was being proposed against Acting Chief Choi, he said, "All party forces will work together to ensure that the arrest warrant is executed by the deadline."
When asked why the leadership did not accept the proposal to impeach Choi, Yoon avoided a direct answer, saying, "At this point in time, we have decided to pour all our energy into the impeachment of Choi.
"It is not the time to talk about impeachment, but rather the leadership has listened to the opinions of the lawmakers," he said.
It is not a matter of not accepting it," he said, leaving room for error.
