South Korean Presidential Office accuses OhmyNews of violating the Military Base and Military Facility Protection Act
On the 8th, the South Korean Presidential Office announced that it had filed charges against the South Korean internet media outlet OhmyNews (OhmyTV) for violating the Military Base and Military Facilities Protection Act.
The presidential office said in a public announcement on the same day, "The accused took and reported on the unauthorized filming of the area around the residence without permission." It also said, "The area around the residence is a military area where the incumbent president and former head of state resides.
"It is a protected facility. As it is an important security facility that is directly linked to national security, unauthorized photography may be punished under relevant laws," he emphasized.
"In response, the Presidential Office has filed charges, expressed strong regret, and will not tolerate such illegal acts in the future," the statement said.
"We will take strict measures," he said. Prior to this, the same media outlet had reported that a person believed to be President Yoon Seok-yeol had been photographed at the official residence that afternoon.
