Teenage girl ”random killer” Park Dae-seon sentenced to life imprisonment in first trial - South Korea

Park Dae-seong (31), the “random killer” who brutally murdered a teenage female student as she was walking down the street late at night, was sentenced to life imprisonment in the first trial.
According to the Korean legal community on the 9th, the Gwangju District Court's Suncheon branch today indicted the suspect on charges of murder and attempted murder.
At the first sentencing hearing for Park, who was indicted on charges of sexual assault, the court sentenced him to life imprisonment and ordered him to wear an electronic device for 20 years, one level lighter than the death penalty sought by the prosecution.
At around 12:44 a.m. on September 26 last year, Park arrested an 18-year-old woman who was walking down the street in Suncheon City, Jeolla Province, for special reasons.
He was charged with stabbing the victim multiple times with a deadly weapon without any reason and killing her. What was particularly shocking was his actions after the crime. Defendant Park entered the izakaya and karaoke bar run by the woman without shoes on and with the murder weapon in hand.
He is also suspected of going to another place to arrange further murders. CCTV footage showed Park laughing immediately after the crime.
The court said, "The fear and helplessness felt by the victim after being suddenly attacked is difficult to describe in words."
He pointed out, "A retired social worker was walking down the street and his life was brutally taken, and it will likely not be easy for his family to recover from the immense mental pain and wounds they have endured and return to their daily lives."
At the closing hearing, the prosecution said, "Defendant Park caused the victim's family and acquaintances to feel an incurable sense of loss and helplessness, and caused the local community to feel that anyone could be a target for the crime.
The court demanded the death penalty, the maximum sentence, saying, "She has shown no effort to control herself, and her condition is worsening day by day.
However, the court said, "It is difficult to believe that this was planned in detail in advance, and we took into consideration the fact that there is no criminal punishment beyond a fine when deciding on the sentence.
" He was sentenced to life imprisonment. Considering the brutality of the crime and the serious damage caused, the police have made Park's identity and mugshot public from the investigation stage.
