The overwhelming majority of respondents chose "cultural, arts, and sports professionals and related occupations." The research team first conducted a survey by asking participants to select their first and second choice of occupation when asked what they wanted to do in the future.
After that, the survey analyzed students' desired occupations based on the medium-class categories that were most frequently answered by students in the 7th revised edition of the Statistics Korea Standard Occupational Classification.
The top answer criterion was "becoming a professional or in a related position in the fields of culture, arts, or sports," with 43.22% of respondents choosing this as their future dream.
Occupations in this field include actors, singers, athletes, theater and film directors and performance planners, painters, performing artists, designers, writers, and journalists.
The next most popular occupation group was "health, social welfare, and religion-related occupations," which accounted for 10.02% and included doctors, nurses, pharmacists, Chinese medicine doctors, nutritionists, social workers, and religious professionals.
"Educational professionals and related professions" (9.35%), including professors and teachers, "Legal and administrative professionals" (7.30%), including judges, prosecutors, lawyers, and civil servants, and "Cooking and beverage professionals" (including chefs, etc.).
This was followed by “advanced public and corporate occupations” (5.22%), “scientific professionals and related occupations” (4.95%), and “information and communication professionals and related occupations” (4.95%).
"Technical occupations" (4.86%), "Beauty, accommodation, travel, and entertainment related occupations" (2.40%), "Engineering professionals and technical occupations" (1.58%), and "Agriculture, livestock, forestry, and fishing related occupations" (1.42%).
The second most popular career choice for students was "cultural, arts, and sports professionals and related jobs," with 21.53% of students choosing this option. "Cooking and food service jobs"
"Education professionals and related professions" (12.20%) and "education professionals and related professions" (11.11%) also showed high rates. In addition, nearly half of the students were positive about the possibility of being able to obtain their first choice profession.
When asked if they thought it was possible to get their first choice job, 41.51% answered "I think so," and 11.73% answered "I think so very much."
