South Korea's ruling party leader holds private meeting with Trump aide

Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the ruling People Power Party, and Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo met with a close aide to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who recently visited South Korea privately.
On the 9th, it was reported that Trump had met with Robert Manafort, who served as campaign manager for Trump's first presidential election in 2016.
On the 7th, he met with House Floor Leader Kwon and expressed great interest in the direction of South Korea's political situation and the date of the presidential election after the impeachment motion against President Yoon Seok-yeol was passed.
He also reportedly expressed his recognition that the United States places great importance on the US-ROK alliance. In his meeting with Manafort, Mayor Hong mentioned the theory of nuclear balance between North and South Korea and spoke of the need for South Korea to acquire its own nuclear weapons.
The two also reportedly discussed the importance of having a second term for Trump in the US-South Korea relationship and security issues.
The mayor of Daegu was invited to a dinner party. A Daegu city official said, "Considering the current situation, we have heard that the mayor is wondering whether he should attend."
