The High-Ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Agency completed its investigation about 11 hours after executing an arrest warrant for President Yoon Seok-yeol. President Yoon is said to have exercised his right to remain silent during the investigation.
The president's side requested a postponement of the hearing date for the second impeachment trial, which was scheduled for the 16th. On the night of the 15th, the Office for Investigation of Crimes by High-Ranking Public Officials announced, "We finished our investigation into President Yoon Seok-yeol at around 9:40 pm."
The arrest warrant was executed at 10:33 a.m. that day, about 10 hours and 40 minutes later. After completing the investigation, President Yoon boarded a security vehicle and headed to Uiwang, Gyeonggi Province.
He is expected to appear again at the Gwacheon Government Complex's High-Ranking Public Officials Crime Investigation Agency on the morning of the 16th to continue his investigation.
The Office for Investigating Crimes against High-Ranking Public Officials began its investigation into President Yoon at 11 a.m. that day in the video recording investigation room at the Government Complex Gwacheon.
However, President Yoon exercised his right to refuse to testify during the investigation, claiming that the investigation by the High-Ranking Public Officials Crimes Investigation Agency was illegal. President Yoon refused to testify during the investigation, which lasted for about two and a half hours until around 1:30 p.m.
"The president has been under investigation for the rest of the investigation, and he has not responded to any of the questions posed by Deputy Prosecutor General Lee Jae-seong.
Meanwhile, President Yoon's side requested a postponement of the second hearing of the impeachment trial at the Constitutional Court, which was scheduled for the afternoon of the 16th.
It was confirmed that the two sides had agreed to hold talks on the issue, but it is expected that they will be able to hold talks on the issue on the basis that President Yoon is under arrest.
In a telephone interview, he said, "I had intended to attend the second hearing and continue the arguments, but I decided that it was not possible to continue the arguments given that President Yoon has been arrested."
However, the Constitutional Court said, "We cannot confirm the receipt of the documents," and added, "They can be viewed at the Electronic Constitutional Court Center after the non-disclosure period has passed."
