Korean Daiso refuses entry to blind person's guide dog... Gyeongju city investigates
The city of Gyeongju has launched an investigation into the Korean Daiso store, which refused to allow guide dogs for the visually impaired to enter the store. On the 26th, the city of Gyeongju announced that the store had refused to allow guide dogs for the visually impaired to enter the store.
The agency plans to investigate the stores and headquarters of the company and take action in accordance with relevant laws if any illegal activities are found. Prior to this, KBS anchor Heo Woo-ryung, who is visually impaired, filed for bankruptcy on the 13th of this month.
He posted a video on his YouTube channel titled, "What did I hear? An unexpected situation I encountered in Gyeongju with my guide dog."
The video showed Heo being prevented from entering a Daiso store with his guide dog while he was traveling in Gyeongju.
The store employee refused to let him in, saying that they had to consider the safety of other customers, so Heo quickly did his shopping and left the store.
Article 40 of the Welfare Law for Persons with Disabilities states that assistance dogs for persons with disabilities cannot be prohibited from entering public transport or public places.
Violation of this law carries a fine of 3 million won (approximately 320,000 yen). A Gyeongju city official said, "This case is an important issue regarding the human rights of citizens and the rights of people with disabilities, and we will deal with it promptly.
"We plan to carry out legal procedures through a thorough investigation," the company said, adding, "We will also strengthen compliance with the Disability Welfare Act and human rights education among public institutions and commercial facilities in the area."
