South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Tae-yeol held his first telephone conversation with Kaya Kallas, the new EU representative for foreign affairs and security policy, on the 22nd. They discussed South Korea-EU relations, Russia-North Korea cooperation, and the Korean Peninsula.
They discussed the situation on the Korean peninsula and the international situation. According to the South Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Cho held a telephone conversation with High Representative Kallas in the afternoon of the same day and discussed the "Korea-EU Strategic Partnership."
In response, Kallas reportedly said, "South Korea is an important strategic partner of the EU and cooperation with South Korea is important."
"In a climate where security in Europe and the Indo-Pacific region is closely linked, the Korea-EU strategic partnership, which marks its 15th anniversary this year,
"The illegal military cooperation between Russia and North Korea, which is supporting Russia's war of aggression in Ukraine, is a matter of concern to South Korea and Europe, among others," he said.
The two sides also agreed to continue cooperating to halt the "Russia-North Korea military cooperation."
They agreed to hold a meeting to further discuss Korea-EU cooperation plans and international situations.
