Former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min tells Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, ”If you don't give basic income, apologize to the people” (South Korea)
On the 23rd, former lawmaker Yoo Seung-min said to Democratic Party Chairman Lee Jae-myung, "If you admit that basic income and basic society are really wrong policies, then Chairman Lee should have been in the middle of this.
"The Democratic Party must apologize for deceiving the public about basic income and change its policy platform of realizing a basic society."
Rep. Yoo, a former lawmaker, told Fei Subook that afternoon, "And now, through supplementary budgets and legislation, we are providing 250,000 won to all citizens.
"The government must immediately withdraw its claim that the additional payment (approximately 27,200 yen) will be paid in local currency," the statement read.
Prior to this, Chairman Lee held a New Year's press conference at the National Assembly that morning.
"Right now, the process of creating (growth) is more important than the issue of sharing," he said, adding that he was "seriously considering (reviewing)" his trade mark, the Basic Income and Basic Social Pledge.
Former lawmaker Yoo said, "(Representative Lee) has been persistently advocating 'basic income, basic society', but now he is suddenly abandoning it. 'Lee Jae-myung's identity' is just basic income.
But if he were to abandon that, what would remain of Lee Jae-myung's philosophy, identity, and policies? He used to say that basic income was a growth policy, but now that Lee has suddenly abandoned basic income and started talking about growth,
"Many people are probably unsure whether they can trust a leader who changes his words without any consistency or logic," he said.
"They are trying to deceive the public by changing their gorgeous words about the Korean alliance and the North Korean nuclear issue. They are just rushing around in a panic to somehow grab power, and it's not exciting at all," he said.
He continued, "Changing words is merely opportunism, not pragmatism. With elections coming up, we need to be wary of politicians who change their words only to count votes. Lee's pragmatism is
"It is not a practical solution for the country and its people, but merely a new type of fraud aimed at seizing power," he added.
