Samsung Galaxy smartphones used in marine conservation efforts in the U.S., with 2-second shooting function highly praised - Korean media
The Scripps Institution of Oceanography in the United States is working with the California-based nonprofit organization Sustainable Surf's Sea Trees program on a project called Coral Island Restoration.
The project is promoting a project called "Coral Focus," where tens of thousands of ocean photos collected using Samsung Electronics' smartphone "Galaxy S24" (hereinafter "S24") are used to create 3D coral reef reconstructions.
Coral in Focus uses the S24 to study coral reefs in Florida and Fiji, which are major habitats for coral reefs and are in a state of serious damage.
A research student at the institute said, "Normally, when a diver dives about 10 meters, he can capture an area of 10 meters vertically and horizontally, but with the S24's "Ocean Mode," he can capture an area of 20 meters horizontally and vertically.
It can shoot automatically every second. The storage capacity and battery capacity are sufficient even for a day's work, and the functions are intuitive, so it is more useful than high-priced cameras."
"We faced a number of technical challenges in our efforts to restore coral reefs to provide habitat for marine life," said SeaTree's Leah Hayes.
"Samsung Electronics is bringing technology to the coral reef restoration effort, accelerating this project."
