ホワイトハウス「今日からメキシコ・カナダ・中国の関税開始」再確認
White House reaffirms that tariffs on Mexico, Canada and China will begin on the 1st
The White House has reaffirmed that President Donald Trump will impose 25% tariffs on Mexico and Canada and an additional 10% on China, but has delayed the imposition of the tariffs by one month.
On the 31st (local time), White House Public Information Secretary Caroline Leavitt said that the tariffs on Mexico, Canada, and China will be imposed within one month.
Regarding reports that the deadline will be extended by some amount, he said, "Those reports are false. I was in the Oval Office with the president and we can confirm that the deadline set by President Trump, tomorrow (February 1), is still valid."
When asked whether the tariffs would take effect on February 1, Levitt said, "The president can revoke them at any time. It's up to the president."
He did not say which countries would be exempt from the tariffs. Earlier, Reuters reported that Canada and Mexico would be exempt from the tariffs starting March 1, rather than February 1 as originally teased by President Trump.
China said it would impose tariffs on the United States.
