Barbie passed away recently in Japan from a combination of influenza and pneumonia. She was 48 years old. The funeral of the deceased was held in Japan, and Barbie's mother and her daughter entered Taiwan first. Koo Jun Yeop and her sister Shu Shi-dee will be carrying Barbie's deceased body in their bosom when they enter Taiwan.
According to the Taiwan Central News Agency (CNA) and other media, Barbie's mother, through a film producer who was quite close to Barbie before her death, said "The family is deeply saddened by Barbie's sudden death. Please understand that we cannot explain the current situation in detail."
They continued "We are going through a lot of complicated procedures to transport Barbie to Taiwan, and the family members will not be able to return home for a while." and added "This has always been Barbie's wish, so we ask for your understanding."
Against this backdrop, one Taiwanese media outlet claimed that Barbie's death was not caused by pneumonia, but by sepsis.
According to this media outlet, one or two days after Ms Barbie arrived in Japan, she developed a severe cough and was prescribed medicine at the hospital. And as soon as Ms Barbie's condition deteriorated rapidly while she was in the hotel for two days, her family members went to a large hospital in Tokyo. Ms Barbie was diagnosed with influenza at the hospital, and medical staff attempted to perform CPR, but she eventually died. It was learned that the cause of death was recorded as sepsis on the death certificate.
The media analysed, in the words of experts, that the flu led to pneumonia, which led to sepsis due to slow treatment, and that "missing the golden hour had a decisive influence on the death."
Meanwhile, Ms Barbie married a businessman in 2011 and had one son and one daughter, but they divorced in 2021 after 10 years of marriage. She then announced her marriage in March 2022 to Koo Jun Yeob, with whom she had been in a relationship for 20 years.
