Chairman of the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff: ”North Korea poses a global threat”
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Kim Myoung-soo of the Republic of Korea Joint Chiefs of Staff attended the Indo-Pacific Security Forum on the 5th and discussed the changing security environment and key issues of concern with senior military officials from the region.
"The threat from North Korea, including the deployment of troops to Russia and the sophistication of its nuclear and weapons of mass destruction (WMD) technologies, has gone beyond the Korean Peninsula and emerged as a global threat," Kim said.
"We need to expand security cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region to maintain the peace and stability of the region," he said.
Military leaders from 26 countries, including the United States, Japan, and Australia, attended the forum. The Indo-Pacific Security Forum was first held in 2021 under the auspices of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command.
It was established as a forum for high-level military dialogue to maintain peace and stability in the region and to promote cooperation and communication.
