Dog meat ban: 4 out of 10 dog farms go out of business in South Korea
On the 9th, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs of South Korea announced that "in the six months since the enforcement of the 'Special Act on the End of the Raising, Slaughtering and Distribution of Dogs for Meal,' 40% of all dog farms (1,537 locations) have been slaughtered."
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs predicted that the number of farms that went out of business would rise to 60 percent by the end of the year.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries plans to work with local governments to provide support for swift closure of businesses.
Park Jeong-hoon, animal welfare and environmental policy officer at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "We will support all farms to close by 2027 and conduct thorough inspections."
"I ask related industries to actively cooperate with the government's efforts so that Korea can be reborn as a developed country in terms of material welfare."
