According to Sookmyung Women's University, if Kim does not protest the university's report by midnight on the 12th, the university will issue a plagiarized statement claiming that the thesis is plagiarized.
The results of the university's investigation are expected to be definitive. The thesis in question is "Paul Klee's Thesis," which Kim submitted to the Graduate School of Education at Sookmyung Women's University in 1999.
The paper was titled "A Study on the Characteristics of Paintings by Klee." As it caused controversy, the university formed a Research Ethics and Integrity Committee in 2022 to launch an investigation and make a provisional conclusion that the paper was plagiarized.
Kim had refused to receive the results of the committee's investigation twice in the past, but finally received them on the 14th of last month. The committee has 30 days from the date of receipt to file an objection.
There is still a possibility that Kim's side will file an objection late on the night of the 12th. The university will hold a meeting on the morning of the 13th to discuss how to handle Kim's thesis.
Meanwhile, the Democratic Alumni Association of Sookmyung Women's University, which provided information on the allegations of plagiarism against Kim, was notified of the results of the investigation by the Committee on Research and Development on the 31st of last month and has until the 4th of next month to file an objection.
"We cannot make any decision because we have not received any information from the university on the rate of plagiarism," said Yoo Young, president of the Democratic Alumni Association.
