Professor Lee appeared on YTN Radio on the 13th and spoke about the motive of the female teacher who killed Kim Ham-ul (8) in this case.
Professor Lee said, "First of all, depression has no causal relationship with this type of violence. In fact, many teachers are receiving treatment for depression due to the difficulties of their work.
"If we were to announce it like this, it would raise the issue of labelling all of these people as unsuitable for teaching, which I don't think would be appropriate," he said.
He also said, "What I'm most interested in from the police announcement is that three days after returning to work, he said, 'I was angry.'
It is believed that he committed this crime because of a personal reason, but in reality, he may have had a more serious personality problem than depression. Since returning to work, some violent behavior has been reported.
"He destroyed it because he couldn't control the game. He seems to have had some persistent problems," he said. Professor Lee explained that this case follows a similar pattern to "random murders." Professor Lee said, "He has a paranoia.
"Someone with a schizophrenic disorder or an extremely antisocial personality disorder ended up taking a kind of revenge on the person who was least able to defend themselves, either to get revenge or to defend themselves."
"Given the characteristics of this assailant, for example, that she is an adult woman who works there, it is highly likely that she would have chosen a child who was least able to defend herself in that environment," he explained.
He continued, "People with depression are generally very likely to commit suicide, but the motives are different from that of this type of person. When he had an argument with another teacher, he asked himself why he was the only one who was unhappy.
"It is highly likely that the comments were related to antisocial thinking," he added. Professor Lee also said it was difficult to believe that the incident was an accidental one caused by mental impairment.
"In cases like murder, where a patient commits a crime while in a state of persecution complex or mental confusion due to a mental illness, the crime is accidental. But that is not the case here. It is not a disease that corresponds to mental impairment at all," he said.
"When Shi came, some unfavorable interview was conducted, and in order to retaliate, he went out without permission during his lunch break and bought some tools. Then, in the afternoon, he achieved his goal. In the end, it can only be considered a very carefully planned murder."
Professor Lee said, "The time was chosen and the location was a soundproof audiovisual room. There was no CCTV. In the end, they waited until the child was alone and away from the group, where the victim had the least defenses.
"It appears that they were searching for someone to hire," he said, emphasizing, "Originally, the child was in a situation where he needed to go to cram school. The only thing we can think is that this process was meticulously planned."
Meanwhile, on the 10th of this month, at around 6pm, 8-year-old Haneul was found stabbed with a knife by a female teacher in her 40s in the audiovisual room of an elementary school in Seo-gu, Daejeon.
Haneul and the female teacher were taken to a nearby hospital. Haneul was taken to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest, but later died.
