Man who tried to rob a bank with a ”dinosaur water gun” sent to prosecutors in South Korea
A man in his 30s who was arrested in two minutes for attempting to rob a bank in broad daylight with a toy water gun has been referred to the prosecution. On the 19th, the Gijang Police Station in Busan charged him with attempted robbery.
The prosecution announced that a suspect in his 30s, A, had been arrested and sent to the prosecution on suspicion of robbery. A is accused of attempting to rob a bank in Gijang County on the morning of the 10th of this month, but failed.
At the time, suspect A entered the bank hiding his face with a scarf and hat, and threatened customers and employees with a toy water gun in the shape of a dinosaur that he had placed in a black plastic bag, pretending it was a gun.
Afterwards, customer B (53) used his wits to snatch the water gun from suspect A, and after a scuffle ensued, the petitioning police and bank employees worked together to subdue suspect A about two minutes later.
According to police investigation results, the water gun used by suspect A was his 8-year-old son's toy, and he stated that financial difficulties led him to commit the crime.
After moving with his family from Seoul to Busan five years ago, Suspect A had been unemployed after his self-employment failed and he was in a financially difficult situation.
In particular, it was discovered that he was unable to pay his electricity and water bills and had been forced to move out of the officetel (office/residential space) in which he was living.
