The public toilets are now in operation after the renovation work was completed. The ward plans to use them in conjunction with the tourism resources being developed at Suseong Pond, and to maintain harmony with the scenery of Suseong Pond, the curved structure and natural wood design are
The design incorporates curved glass windows and a circular sink, emphasizing how the toilet is different from other public toilets.
A total of 900 million won of national funds were spent on the renovation of this toilet, including 588 million won (about 59 million yen) in construction costs.
The project was commissioned by Spanish architect Daniel Valle. The Suseong district office explained that it was a "project that combines art with public facilities," but some have criticized the project as a waste of taxpayers' money.
A member of the Suseong-gu Council said, "There are doubts about whether it is right to spend 900 million won, the same amount as the price of an apartment building in Beomeo-dong, Suseong-gu, to renovate the public toilets.
A Suseong-gu official said, "This is not just a public toilet renovation. It is also planned to develop the Suseong Pond Water Stage, Sky Bridge, and other tourist attractions.
"We plan to utilize this in collaboration with other organizations, including the Japan Atomic Energy Agency."
