US Deputy Secretary of Defense nominee: ”We must prevent North Korea's expansion of nuclear and missile arsenals”
Steven Feinberg, who has been nominated for Deputy Secretary of Defense, said on the 25th (local time) that "We must work to prevent North Korea from expanding its arsenal of nuclear and missile weapons.
"North Korea has expanded its illegal nuclear weapons program and is developing ballistic and cruise missiles," Feinberg said in a written response at a confirmation hearing of the Senate Armed Services Committee on the same day.
"We are heavily focused on improving our defense program," he said. "North Korea poses a clear threat to stability on the Korean Peninsula, in the Indo-Pacific, and around the world."
In response to a question about taking further steps to improve U.S. and allied defenses in the face of North Korea's nuclear and missile programs, Feinberg said:
"Improving missile defense systems, particularly those targeting the U.S. mainland, is important in confronting the growing threat from North Korea," he responded.
He continued, "North Korea's long-standing biological and chemical weapons program also poses a threat," and "North Korea's deployment of troops to serve Russia is also a concern."
It's a point," he pointed out.
