北朝鮮「“非核化”は旧時代的で無意味」…韓国「北は “核保有国”になれない」
North Korea: ”Denuclearization” is outdated and meaningless”...South Korea: ”North Korea cannot become a nuclear power”
At a UN conference to discuss disarmament issues, the US, Japan and South Korea made a joint statement calling for the complete denuclearization of North Korea. In response, the North Korean representative called the remarks "outdated and meaningless."
In response, the South Korean government stressed that "North Korea can never become a nuclear power," and strongly criticized North Korea's reckless military provocations.
On the 26th (local time), North Korean Permanent Mission to Geneva Counsellor Ju Yong Chol said at the UN
"It is time to stop making meaningless talk about the absurd goal of so-called 'denuclearization,' which is becoming more and more impossible," he said at a disarmament conference held at his Geneva office.
Prior to this, Japan, the United States, and South Korea had requested the right of reply in a joint statement to call for the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization (CVID) of North Korea.
"Since the beginning of this year, the United States has been carrying out aerial reconnaissance operations against North Korea and joint U.S.-South Korean aerial exercises, which have been a major security challenge," Choo said.
"The root cause of instability on the Korean Peninsula and in the region lies in the reckless military actions of the United States and its allies that are hostile to North Korea," he said.
"Despite the desperate efforts of our enemies, North Korea's status as a fully-fledged 'nuclear power' remains a clear reality, and we will continue to defend North Korea's sovereignty," he said.
"North Korea's nuclear deterrence is a legitimate measure and does not threaten regional security," he said. South Korea immediately exercised its right to reply. Kim Il-hoon, counselor at the South Korean mission in Geneva, said,
"North Korea continues to illegally develop nuclear and ballistic missile programs in clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions, while South Korea, the United States and Japan are cooperating on security in accordance with international law," he said.
It continued, "The international community has consistently declared its firm position that, under no circumstances, North Korea can ever attain the status of a nuclear power."
