The fate of a woman in her 20s who returned 1,683 orders from Coupang (South Korea)

A woman in her 20s who abused Coupang's Rocket Fresh return policy by returning products over 1,600 times and earning over 30 million won (about 3.1 million yen) has been sentenced to prison.
According to the legal community, on the 3rd, the Seoul Central District Court sentenced Defendant A, who was indicted on charges of fraud, to eight months in prison with two years of probation. He was also ordered to perform 120 hours of community service.
Over a period of approximately four months from November 30, 2023 to April 1, 2024, Defendant A made 1,683 orders through Coupang Rocket Fresh, requesting returns and receiving approximately 31,000,000 yen in damages.
He was put on trial on suspicion of defrauding 850,000 won (approximately 3.3 million yen). The products he ordered were milk, cheese sticks, butter, vegetables and fruit, and ice cream, and there were no problems with the products.
It was reported that Defendant A exploited Coupang's fresh policy. Coupang's policy states that if there is a problem with a fresh food product or a consumer requests a return due to a delivery issue, the company will take measures to recall the product.
The defendant A received separate payment from a third party for "ordering at a discounted price," and requested a return of the delivered product, even though there was no problem with it.
It was reported that Defendant A deposited 10 million won (approximately 1 million yen) in court, but the court reprimanded him, saying, "Despite your efforts to recover, considerable damages have yet to be recovered." Continued
