A man in his 20s has been referred to prosecutors for stealing 10 million won (approximately 1.02 million yen) worth of cash and valuables by falsely employing himself at a convenience store.
The Paju Police Station in Gyeonggi-do, South Korea arrested a man in his 20s on suspicion of habitual theft.
On the 2nd, the police announced that a man named A had been arrested and sent to the prosecution. On the 3rd of last month, while working part-time at a convenience store in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, A took advantage of an opportunity to be alone and stole 470,000 won (approximately 40,000 yen) in cash.
A is suspected of stealing 8,000 yen (approx. 8,000 yen) from a mobile gift certificate he had scanned in the middle of the night while working part-time, charged it to his own mobile phone, and then opened the cash register's safe and stole the banknotes.
After stealing the items, Mr. A fled. After the crime, he was working part-time again at another convenience store in Goyang, but was arrested by the police on the 18th of last month.
According to the investigation so far, Mr. A committed the crime just two days after being employed at the convenience store, and has a history of committing similar crimes multiple times.
It was confirmed that he used the same method seven times between January and February this year at convenience stores in Seoul, Gangwon, Gyeonggi, Daegu, and Gyeongsangnam-do.
Over the course of the trip, he stole valuables worth 10 million won (approximately 1.02 million yen).
