It is believed that the accident occurred during a joint live-fire training exercise between the US and South Korean militaries. After receiving a report of the accident, the fire department issued a first response order and took control of the scene.
Seven people were reported to have been injured. No patients were in cardiac arrest. Seven nearby buildings, including houses, and cars were damaged. The exact source of the shell has yet to be confirmed.
A source from the Pocheon Police Station said, "We are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident." The first joint live-fire training exercise of the year was held today at the Pocheon Seungjin Training Area, near the site of the accident.
The exercise was conducted by the Korean Air Force's fighter jets and the Capital Mechanized Infantry Division. The fire department believes that the errant bullet was fired by a fighter jet that was taking part in the exercise.
An investigation team is on the scene to determine the cause of the accident.
