The US administration wants South Korea's shipbuilding technology to rebuild a powerful US Navy." Rep. Ahn said, "We should negotiate the introduction of South Korean nuclear submarines along with rebuilding the US Navy."
With the AUKUS (Australian-U.S.-UK security council) negotiations underway, South Korea has also received approval to introduce nuclear submarines, and is expected to join the next generation of the US Navy to help rebuild the country's navy.
"There is no reason for the submarine to be inferior to the US Navy," he said. "In this age of artificial satellites, conventional submarines have to surface several times a month, which means their location is exposed.
"We also need nuclear submarines that can operate on the ocean floor for long periods of time," he said. "This is in great support of the national interest of the United States, as it would prevent North Korean and Chinese submarines from sneaking up to the coast of the United States."
"The Trump administration places importance on practical benefits, so there is plenty of room for negotiation if we have sophisticated logic and strategy," Ahn continued.
