Police launch investigation into President Yoon's release, accusing him of ”bringing a knife”
Since South Korean President Yoon Seok-youl was released from prison on the 8th of this month, multiple posts threatening the president's life have been posted on social networking services (SNS), and police have launched an investigation.
On the 11th, Seongdong Police Station in Seoul announced that it had received a report of threatening posts including one stating, "I will assassinate President Yoon," and was conducting a pre-charge investigation.
On the 7th, X (formerly Twitter) posted a message stating, "Yoon Seok-youl's arrest has been revoked? Does that mean I should assassinate him? I'm going to XX with a knife to take Yoon Seok-youl's head."
On the following day, the 8th, the Seongdong Police Station's Security Situation Room reportedly received a report that "a post threatening President Yoon's life had been made."
According to a police source, among the reported posts, three were particularly violent and were reported to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency on the 10th of this month.
The matter has been transferred to the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit, and the remaining posts are being investigated. Police are also investigating posts teasing violent acts against the Constitutional Court.
Acting Commissioner of the National Police Agency Park Hyun-soo said at a regular press conference on the 10th, "We are investigating about 60 cases of reported postings, and we are also investigating the postings on the Constitutional Court bulletin board.
Meanwhile, President Yoon was released on the 8th of this month after the prosecution abandoned its immediate appeal against the court's decision to revoke his detention. The court set the detention period at "days."
In response, opposition lawmakers held a head-shaving ceremony on the same day to demand the early removal of President Yoon Seok-youl from office and staged a strike calling for his arrest.
On the official website of the Constitutional Court, supporters of the president have posted hundreds of thousands of messages calling for "opposition to impeachment."
The date for the verdict in the impeachment trial of President Yoon Seok-youl has yet to be decided. Initially, the 14th was expected to be the likely date for the verdict, but the Constitutional Court announced on the 13th that the verdict would be announced on the 14th.
With the announcement that the government will reach a decision on the impeachment trial of three prosecutors, including Board of Audit and Inspection Commissioner Jae-hye and Seoul Central District Prosecutor's Office Chief Lee Chang-soul, some are concerned that the verdict on President Yoon's case may be further delayed.
It's out.
