Last month, domestic passenger numbers were down 12.5% and international passenger numbers down 8.2% compared to January, with the overall number of passengers declining 10.5%.
The overall figure was down 9.4%. February had three fewer days than January, and there was also a baseline effect compared to January, when passenger numbers increased due to the Lunar New Year holiday.
Passenger numbers in February included Korean Air (2.007 million, down 8.7%) and Asiana Airlines (1.368 million, down 11.1%).
Most Korean airlines saw declines. Among them, Jeju Air saw a slight decline from 881,000 passengers in January to 879,000 last month, the largest monthly decline for a Korean airline.
This was the smallest increase of 0.2%, as the number of international passengers (599,000) decreased by 1.2%, but the number of domestic passengers (279,000) increased by 2.1%.
This puts Jeju Air ahead of Jin Air (863,000 passengers, down 7.6%) and T'Way Air (838,000 passengers, down 9%) in the number of passengers among LCCs.
After the accident at the end of last year, Jeju Air had fallen to third place among LCCs in January, losing its position to Jin Air and T'way Air.
In addition, this was the result of Jeju Air reducing the number of flights it operates in order to improve flight safety. An aviation industry source said, "Jeju Air will reduce the number of domestic and international flights it operates until the end of March.
"Despite the damage, we were able to alleviate customer concerns and passenger numbers have increased again," he said.
Air Busan reported that its domestic passenger numbers were 122,000, down 52.8%, and its international passenger numbers were 33,000, down 26.3%.
The number was 71,000, a decrease of 9.6%.
