Director Bong Junho's new film ”Mickey 17” falls to third place in North America after two weeks of release, but remains number one in Korea for 16 consecutive days

Director Bong Junho's new film "Mickey 17" was relegated to third place at the box office over the North American weekend, losing its top spot after just one week.
According to the US box office revenue tallying website Box Office Mojo on the 15th (local time), the film will be grossing 10,000 yen in North America on Friday, two weeks after its release.
It was screened in 3,807 theaters and grossed $2.2 million in one day, making it the third highest-grossing film.
Earnings from the previous day were $7,726,710 (approximately 1.15 billion yen) compared to last Friday (7th), the day of its release.
This is a 71.5% decrease from the previous year's box office gross of $19.1 million (approximately 2.84 billion yen) for the three-day opening weekend (7th-9th).
The Hollywood media "Variety" reported that the movie's ticket sales for the three days this weekend were down by about 60% compared to last week, and the total revenue for the 10 days of its release in North America was about $33 million.
The film was expected to exceed the gross domestic product (approximately 4.95 billion yen), but it is expected to be difficult to break even.
This is the first new film released in North America in five years since "Semi-Underground Family" (2019), which won four awards including Best Picture at the 2020 Academy Awards (Oscars).
During its first week of release, it was the first Korean director's film to top the US box office. However, two Hollywood films were released in the same week, causing the film's ranking to drop.
The comedy film "Novocaine" was followed by the film "Blanchett," directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring top stars such as Keith Blanchett and Michael Fassbender.
"The Return of the Black Pearl" came in second. Meanwhile, in South Korea, the film maintained its No. 1 position at the box office on the 16th day after its release. According to a tally by the Korean Film Council's Integrated Cinema Ticket Network on the 16th,
"Mickey 17" took the top spot on the 15th, attracting 144,039 people, bringing the total audience to 2,487,426.
The film has topped the box office for 16 consecutive days since its release on February 28th,
Within 10 days of its opening, the film had attracted over 2 million spectators.
