South Korea's Daegu mayor says President Yoon's treason case would be dismissed by any decent judge
On the 23rd, Hong Jun-pyo, mayor of Daegu, South Korea, said about the charge of instigating a civil war against President Yoon Seok-yeol, "I hope that a decent judge will give a verdict."
Mayor Hong said on his social media account, "The adjustment of investigative powers established by former President Moon Jae-in has led to the investigation of the civil unrest.
"Because the indictment was based on investigative materials from the Office for Investigation of Criminal Offenses by High-Ranking Public Officials and the prosecution, which do not have the authority to investigate crimes, the procedure for filing charges under Article 327, Paragraph 2 of the Criminal Procedure Act is invalid as it violates legal provisions," the ministry said.
"Just as the previous ruling to revoke (President Yoon's) arrest was made due to a miscalculation of the number of days of detention and issues regarding the existence of investigative powers, the court will naturally dismiss the charges in the main trial," he said.
"I hope that the impeachment charges will be dismissed, the criminal trial against the president will be resolved quickly, and the country will stabilize. The international situation is getting tougher every day, and domestic instability will likely worsen quickly," he said.
"I want Korea to become stable and stand up again. If we drag this out any longer, the country will face real difficulties."
