”A sincere friend who does deliveries as a side job after work” - Motorcycle driver killed in road collapse (South Korea)

The motorbike driver, Park (34), who died in a road collapse accident in Myeongil-dong, Gangdong-gu, Seoul, was working as a delivery man as a side job to make a living when the accident occurred.
According to fire officials, the accident occurred at around 6:29 pm on the 24th at an intersection near Daemyung Elementary School in Gangdong-gu. The blast was about 20 meters in diameter and 20 meters deep.
A large hole appeared, and Park, who was riding a motorcycle, fell into the hole and went missing. Unfortunately, Park was found at the center of the hole at around 11:22 a.m. on the 25th, 17 hours after he went missing.
He was found 50 metres from the start of the line in a state of cardiac arrest, still wearing the same clothes he was wearing just before the fall, including his helmet and bike boots.
Kim, a friend who knew Park for 25 years, rushed to the funeral home before the funeral preparations were made and held back tears.
"No one can deny that my friend has lived his life to the fullest. He has lived a truly honest life," Kim said. "He tried to revive his business by working at a company and doing delivery work at night.
"I was trying so hard to live my life that it made me worried, so I don't understand why I had to suffer such an unexpected accident," he said lamenting.
According to Kim, Park lost his father in an accident in 2018 and has been living with his mother and sister ever since.
Park, who was running a business, said that three years ago the company started to face financial difficulties and he began working as a delivery man after work as a side job. On the day of the accident, he had left the company to do the delivery work.
"How could this have happened? I feel so sorry for my son," said Park's mother, who broke down in tears. Other family members also shed tears.
Meanwhile, the cause of the accident may have been a combination of the construction of an extension excavation for subway Line 9 and complex underground facilities such as water pipes.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government has dispatched about 10 experts to the site of the road collapse in Myeongil-dong to investigate whether excavation work or underground structures may have contributed to the accident.
