NASA衛星が捉えた韓国の山火事...海岸まで立ち込める霧の壁
South Korean wildfires captured by NASA satellite...wall of fog stretching all the way to the coast
On the 21st of this month, large-scale wildfires broke out across South Korea, starting in Sancheong, South Gyeongsang Province, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) released satellite images showing the extent of the wildfires.
On the 24th (local time), the NASA Earth Observatory, operated by NASA, posted a report titled "Wildfires across South Korea."
The article was published by Tor and a satellite photo was released. The photo was taken by the MODIS sensor on NASA's Aqua satellite on the 22nd of last month.
The NASA Earth Observatory explained that smoke from some of the larger wildfires was visible. The photo shows smoke from the mist-like wildfires in Sancheong and Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province, approaching the coast.
The NASA Earth Observatory also explained that "more than 1,000 residents were evacuated, parts of the highway and railway were closed, and an ancient temple was burned down (due to the wildfire in Uiseong, North Gyeongsang Province)."
According to the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters and other sources on the 27th, as of 6 p.m. the previous day, the forest fire extinguishing rate in Sancheong and Hadong was 77%, and in Uiseong and Andong it was 68%.
The total number of casualties so far has been 55, with 26 deaths and 29 injuries. Of the injured, 8 are seriously injured and 21 are seriously injured.
The forestry authorities had deployed 87 HYERI helicopters, 5,421 personnel, and 656 pieces of equipment to Uiseong, Andong, and Yeongyang to put out the fires the previous day, but the fires continued to spread in the afternoon, with the number of fatalities reaching a maximum of 20 seconds.
The operation was hampered by strong winds of 11 meters per second and a daytime high temperature of over 20 degrees. In Uiseong, a HYERI helicopter deployed in the firefighting operation crashed, killing the pilot, who was in his 70s.
The previous day, it was confirmed that the areas affected by the wildfires in Cheongsong, Yeongyang, and Yeongdeok alone, excluding Uiseong and Andong, reached 16,019 hectares.
