Suspect Myung Jae-wan arrested and indicted for murdering elementary school girl... ”Crime committed out of amplified anger” = South Korea
Myung Jae-wan (48), a teacher who was arrested on suspicion of using a deadly weapon to kill Kim Ha Nul, an elementary school student in Daejeon City, at school, was arrested today, 45 days after the incident.
On the 27th, the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office announced that they had arrested and indicted Myeong on charges of violating the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (profiteering, inducement, etc.).
The prosecution viewed this case as a crime of abnormal motive, fueled by anger. The anger was fuelled by alienation from family discord, regret over returning to work too quickly, and incompatibility at work, and was then used against minors who were weaker than the victim.
It is believed that Myeong killed the female student in a brutal manner. He also added that he had been suffering from abandonment anxiety, such as the fear of being abandoned, and emotional regulation problems.
The prosecution described the crime as a meticulously planned crime. Myeong had prepared the tools for the crime by searching the internet in advance, selected a suitable place and time to commit the crime, and then scouted for a victim.
The suspect, Myeong, took Haneul, a first-grader at an elementary school in Seo-gu, Daejeon, to the audiovisual room on the 10th of last month at around 5pm as she was returning home from a care class.
Myeong, who attempted to commit suicide after the crime, underwent surgery and was hospitalized for 20 days, which delayed police investigations, and he was arrested on the 8th.
An arrest warrant was finally issued for Myung. On the 12th, the police released Myung's personal information after comprehensively considering the brutality of the crime, the seriousness of the damage, and the opinions of the surviving family members.
