South Korean prosecutors appeal Lee Jae-myung's acquittal
South Korean prosecutors have appealed the acquittal of Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung on charges of violating the Public Offices Election Act in the second trial.
On the 27th, the prosecution filed an appeal with the Seoul High Court, which heard Lee's appeal trial.
As a result, the Supreme Court will be the final judge in the trial over Lee's violation of the Public Offices Election Act.
The prosecution criticized the court for “blatantly believing only the claims of the defendant that the court of first instance had rejected after a lengthy trial.”
This is because the court of first instance based its decision on numerous testimonies, video calls, photographs, official documents, and other evidence.
"The court of second instance overturned a verdict that had been handed down after more than a year of trial."
