US Defense Department: ”Deterring China is the top priority”... ”Deterring North Korea is the responsibility of allies, defense spending to increase”

"Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth recently shared new guidance with the Pentagon, which shifted the priority to preventing a Chinese invasion of Taiwan and defending the U.S. mainland," according to the Washington Post.
The WP also said, "We will pressure our allies to increase defense spending in order to entrust a larger proportion of the role of deterring threats from North Korea and other nations."
According to multiple sources, Secretary Hegseth distributed a nine-page document titled "Interim National Defense Strategic Guidance" to the Department of Defense around the middle of this month.
In a document signed by him and marked "Classified, not for release to foreign nationals" on most pages, Secretary Hegseth announced that "the United States will stop China from invading Taiwan,"
"Given manpower and support constraints, the Department of Defense will continue to accept risks in other regions and continue to deploy forces in Europe, the Middle East, and East Asia," Hegseth said in a written statement.
"We will pressure our allies to spend more on defense so that they can take on more of a role in deterring threats from Russia, North Korea, Iran and other nations," he said.
