Teacher Myung Jae-wan accused of ”murdering elementary school student” to face trial on 28th of next month (South Korea)

The trial of teacher Myung Jae-wan (48), who murdered the late Kim Ha Nul (8) with a deadly weapon at an elementary school in Daejeon, South Korea, is set to begin next month.
According to the legal community on the 31st, the Daejeon District Court will hold a hearing on the 28th of next month at 10 am for violation of the Act on Aggravated Punishment of Certain Crimes (kidnapping and abduction of minors aged 13 and public use)
The first hearing of the case against Myung Jae Wan, who was indicted on charges of property damage and assault, is being held. Myung Jae Wan returned home from after-school care at an elementary school in Daejeon at around 5 a.m. on the 10th of last month.
He is accused of taking Kim Ha Nul, a first-year student who was returning home, to the audiovisual room and killing her with a weapon he purchased himself. After the crime, Myung Jae Wan attempted to kill himself, but was found with a knife in his hand, which stitched up the veins.
He underwent surgery and stayed in the hospital for about 20 days. As a result, the police investigation was delayed, and an arrest warrant was issued on the 8th, 26 days after the incident, and he was taken to the detention center of the Daejeon Dunsan Police Station.
On the 12th, the police who sent the defendant Myung Jae Wan to the prosecution took into consideration the brutality of the crime, the seriousness of the damage, and the opinions of the victim's family, and decided to release the personal information of the defendant Myung Jae Wan.
The prosecution decided to make the case public. The prosecution said that Myung Jae-wan had prepared the tools for the crime by searching the internet in advance, selected a suitable place and time to commit the crime, and then searched for and kidnapped the victim.
The court determined that the crime was a planned crime that was meticulously planned based on the above points. The court also charged Myung Jae-wan with kidnapping a minor under the specific crime aggravated punishment law, which carries a heavier penalty than murder.
The prosecution has said that the case is a way to resolve the alienation caused by family discord, regret over returning to work too quickly, and anger caused by workplace incompatibility.
He explained that it was a "crime of abnormal motive" in which the perpetrator brutally murdered an elementary school girl, who was weaker than him, in order to commit a crime.
The personal information of the defendant, Myung Jae-wan, will be made public on the Daejeon Metropolitan Police Agency website until the 11th of next month.
