The Type A emergency is a system that mobilizes the maximum police force, limits paid annual leave for police officers, and ensures that senior officers maintain the chain of command. The police will deploy 338 riot police units, about 20,000 strong, across the country.
In particular, 14,000 troops from Unit 210, or more than 60% of the total force, will be deployed to Seoul to step up security. Police are expected to be stationed around Gwanghwamun and President Yoon's official residence in Hannam-dong, Seoul, where large-scale rallies are planned.
The Gwanghwamun-Jongno area has been designated a "special crime prevention strengthened zone," with eight police chief-level officials in charge, including mobile patrol units, local police, traffic police, detectives, and dialogue units.
A total of about 1,500 police and other personnel will be deployed. A high level of security has been put in place around the Constitutional Court, which will determine President Yoon's future. Police have set up a barrier of high vehicles to surround the court.
The court has created a "vacuum" that completely blocks the entry of demonstrators. All demonstrations are prohibited within this area. Security personnel have been increased to protect the judges, and checkpoints and police stations have been set up around the courthouse.
Security checks will be strengthened to thoroughly prevent the bringing in of weapons and other dangerous items. Special police units will be stationed around the courthouse to guard the building, and riot police will also be preparing tear gas sprays and batons.
