”Impeachment of President Yoon Seok-yeol is now a thing of the past”... Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo hints at running for president soon = South Korea
Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo has hinted at running in the early presidential election, which is expected to be held in June. He is expected to step down from his position as mayor of Daegu as early as next week and begin preparations for the presidential election.
Mayor Hong wrote in a Fei Suk book on the 5th, the day after the Constitutional Court's impeachment of former President Yoon Seok-yeol, "We have made great strides in modernizing and democratizing our country and reaching the era of an advanced nation.
It is time for the Republic of Korea to take another leap and usher in the 7th Republic, an era of an advanced superpower, in the 100th year of the Republic of Korea. I have been preparing thoroughly for this as I consider it my final mission in my 30-year political career."
He continued, "Starting next week, I will go through the procedures step by step and stand before the public again." He also wrote, "The impeachment case against President Yoon Seok-yeol has left the party headquarters and is now a thing of the past."
"There is no time to be further embroiled in the impeachment debate," he said. "This presidential election is a short one with only 60 days left, and we only need one day to heal.
"It's the 10th minute, and we have to rise again," he emphasized. Mayor Hong also wrote on his Facebook page on the night of the 3rd, "Today, I wrote a Facebook post titled 'Dreams come true.'
"I have completed two books: 'The 7th Republic: Opening the Era of an Advanced Superpower.' In this book, 'The 7th Republic,' I have tried to portray the future Republic of Korea that I dream of."
Mayor Hong has made his intention to run in the next presidential election clear through press conferences and other such events, and has been receiving rave reviews from local residents.
There are also speculations that he may step down as mayor as early as next week in preparation for an early presidential election.
"I am preparing to run for president in all possible scenarios, whether it be through a presidential election or a normal presidential election," he said in February on his online communication channel, "Youth's Dream."
In his answer to the questions of young people, Hong Jun-pyo said, "If there is a presidential election, I will resign from my position as mayor."
In that case, after mid-March, our team will be ready to hold the next presidential election without the help of the party."
